Vancomycin (Vancocin) and Ketamine Therapy | Tovani Health
Vancocin (Vancomycin) (also: Firvanq) — Glycopeptide antibiotic (oral for C. diff; IV for MRSA)
Verdict at Tovani Health
Fully compatible; oral is essentially non-absorbed, IV has its own monitoring independent of KAP.
Vancomycin and ketamine have no clinically significant interaction. Oral vancomycin (Vancocin, Firvanq) is essentially non-absorbed and used specifically for C. difficile colitis — bypasses any systemic interaction concern. IV vancomycin (typically inpatient for MRSA) requires renal-dose monitoring that's intrinsic to vancomycin, not a KAP issue.
If you take Vancocin regularly and are considering at-home ketamine therapy, the combination is generally safe at therapeutic doses. This page covers the brief pharmacologic context and what we do at intake.
How Vancocin interacts with ketamine
Vancomycin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Oral form stays in the gut lumen. IV form is renally cleared with nephrotoxicity risk requiring level monitoring. No CYP interactions with ketamine.
What we do at intake
Continue your course as prescribed. For IV vancomycin, ensure your level monitoring is up to date.
